    Welcome to Class 5!

    I am so excited for the year ahead and all of the wonderful learning we have in store!

    We are a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class and we will begin each morning with a Sounds-Write phonic lesson, followed by an English and maths lesson. Our English and maths lessons will begin with retreival questions which draw upon prior knowledge and support learning retention. In the afternoons, we will explore the Foundation subjects before ending each day with a story- Class 5 LOVE books!

    PE

    Our PE day is Monday. We have Sports Development delivering PE this half term. Please remember to bring in your PE kit at the beginning of each week. Children must have the correct footwear to take part in PE lessons and all earrings must be removed or covered.

    Geography: Mexico - What are the similarities and differences between my town and Tulum, Mexico? 

    History: The Great Fire of London

    Art: Sculpture - How have artists been inspired by castles?

    Music: West African call and response song

    PSHE: Relationships: Family and friends, Safe relationships- respecting ourselves and others

    RE: How and why do Jews celebrate Hanukkah? How and why is light important at Christmas?

    D&T: Cooking and Nutrition – A balanced diet

    PE: Striking and Fielding: Bat and Ball

    Homework

    Homework is given out on a Thursday and must be completed no later than the following Tuesday. All homework must be handed in through Google Classroom.

    Reading Books

    Children are asked to bring reading books into school every day. Children who bring in reading books everyday will have more opportunities to read in school and change their books. All reading records are online on the Boom Reader App. You will be given your login QR code and details in homework books.
